Delivering consistent and scalable IT services for Bayside Council

Bayside Council brings together the City of Botany Bay and Rockdale City Councils. It was established by Proclamation on Friday the 9th of September 2016. The City covers approximately 55 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 156, 500. Council’s General Manager is Meredith Wallace.


Project Challenges

Bayside Council was formed through the amalgamation of Botany and Rockdale Councils. Prior to the amalgamation, each council was at different stages in their IT infrastructure investment cycle, and their IT systems were different sizes, from different vendors and using different applications. The challenge was to consolidate and organise Bayside’s IT infrastructure and provide a platform to deliver consistent and scalable IT services across both environments that was efficient, effective and affordable.

Why iQ3 (now Tesserent)?

Bayside Council went to market to compare available cloud service options. iQ3 (now Tesserent) was the vendor of choice as they offered a combination of services that tightly matched the council’s requirements. Through iQ3’s multi-datacenter offerings, this allowed Bayside to centralise production in GovDC and move DR and backup to an alternate site. iQ3’s flexible approach meant that the council could tailor their solution at the right price.

Project Benefits

In addition to removing the burden of IT infrastructure refresh and consolidation required due to amalgamation, Council staff have now all moved to a VDI environment with improved response times. Bayside Council IT staff can now support the increased user base without the need for additional staff.
